Catering to ever-increasing demand, as of October 1, Qatar Airways is set to enhance flight frequencies to Bucharest (Romania) and Sofia (Bulgaria).

Currently offering its Bucharest-Sofia linked route five times a week, the carrier will be introducing two additional frequencies, bringing the total number of flights to seven per week.

With the addition of the two new frequencies, the route will offer an additional 48 seats in business class and 360 in economy class per week, representing an increase of 408 seats.

Group CEO, Qatar Airways, HE Akbar Al Baker commented on the news: "Bucharest-Sofia has been an extremely popular route for those travelling to and from Europe. The additional two frequencies will help meet the demand the airline has for this particular route. Europe in particular, is an extremely popular destination for a number of our passengers, especially those in East Asia and we are pleased to be able to continue to offer more options to those looking to travel with us and enjoy our five-star service.

Popular destinations to and from Bucharest and Sofia include Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Dubai, Melbourne, Singapore, Manila, Bangkok, Maldives, Nairobi and Delhi.

Wizz Air has announced additional enhancements to its low-fare route network in Romania, and as of November 1, 2014 the airline is to start operating two weekly flights from Timisoara to Bari, Italy while from March 14, 2015 there will be a twice weekly service from Cluj-Napoca, Romania to Bari.

Both services will be operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

With the latest addition to the network, Wizz Air now offers 21 routes from Cluj-Napoca and 15 routes from Timisoara.

Seats on Wizz Air's newest Romanian routes are already on sale and can be booked on the Wizz Air website.

Corporate communications, Wizz Air, Daniel de Carvalho said: "We are thrilled to announce two new routes from Romania, from Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca to Bari. TAROM was established in 1954 and today has networks for over 40 destinations spanning three continents – Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Wizz Air has announced a new route from Sibiu, (Romania) to Dortmund (Germany) which will commence on October 26, 2014.

Set to initially operate twice a week, flying Wednesdays and Sundays, Dortmund is the carrier's second destination from Sibiu after London Luton, which began operations on June 14. With the addition of the new route, Wizz Air's route network in Romania will now grow to a total of 88 routes to 15 different countries.

Corporate communications manager, Wizz Air, Daniel Carvalho said: "After significant growth announcements in Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara last week, Wizz Air now announces a new Sibiu service to Dortmund. We hope that this route will be as popular as the other 88 in the Romanian network. We also hope that this new service can contribute to strengthening business relations and tourism between both countries."

Tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 9.8 per cent and 12.6 per cent respectively, according to recent figures released by the National Institute of Statistics in Romania.

Furthermore, in comparison to May 2013, customs registered an increase in both the arrivals of
foreign visitors at 0.4 per cent and in the departures abroad of the Romanian visitors of 6.0 per cent in May 2014.

Most of the foreign visitors came from European countries (91.0 per cent), while 61.9 per cent of the total arrivals of the foreign visitors to Romania were from European Union Member
States – out of which most arrivals were from Hungary (29.1 per cent), Bulgaria (24.9 per cent), Germany (9.6 per cent), Italy (7.6 per cent), Poland (4.8 per cent) and Austria (4.2 per cent).

The figures also revealed that between January and the end of May, 2014, compared to the same period last year, arrivals increased by 6.2 per cent and overnight stays rose by 9.9 per cent.

As part of its international expansion plans, DirectRooms, the hotel meta-search site, has officially launched its multiple language options, adding the Romanian language to its platform.

The Romanian public can now search for the best available hotel room deals from over 270 sites with ease, as well as real-time pricing and best available discounts spanning more than 253,000 hotels.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, 100,000 Romanians travel domestically each month and 4.6 per cent of the Romanian public travels internationally, with Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey, the US and Moldova as their top 10 destinations of choice.

Managing director, DirectRooms, Alex Lotz commented: "Our team of native born Romanian speakers worked on the translation and localisation of the meta-search content to optimise accuracy. No more 'lost in translation' for our Romanian users around the world."

In the following months, DirectRooms plans on reaching a total of 34 languages.

Lotz further noted: "We are keen to increase our market share in countries where online travel bookings are growing. By adding Romanian, we have in effect reached out to a new potential audience of approximately 10 million Internet users, with real deals in their own language and currency."

Having launched its summer season schedule, Romanian flag carrier, TAROM, is now offering its passengers more regular flights and charter services to holiday destinations.

The airline has added brand new Bucharest-Moscow and Iaşi-Tel Aviv services to its network portfolio, and in June, Bucharest-Stockholm and Iaşi-Milan services are to be introduced.

TAROM has additionally increased the number of flights per week for the following destinations: Geneva – three flights a week; Dublin – six flights a week; Prague – six flights a week; Amsterdam – 14 flights a week; Chişinău – 17 flights a week; Beirut – three flights a week; and Amman – three flights a week.

Commenting on the start of the summer season was CEO, TAROM, Christian Heinzmann who said: "The summer of 2014 proves to be very attractive for those who choose to travel with TAROM. Both regular and charter flights are available for our clients' unforgettable vacations. The services provided by TAROM are complete, so that our passengers travel safely and comfortably."

Furthermore, the flag carrier has also entered into partnerships for charter flights leaving from Bucharest to: Antalya and Bodrum, Heraklion, Chania, Rhodes, Zakynthos, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Skiathos, Aktion (Lefkada), Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife South; from Cluj to: Skiathos and Chania; as well as from Iaşi to Rhodes and Antalya.

Numerous events and activities will grant exhibition goers the chance to familiarise themselves with the destinations along the Danube, while simultaneously obtaining an overview of the business and tourism potential this region offers.

Located on the stand of MyDanube Travel in Hall 2.2, the Danube Competence Center (DCC) will be presenting its web platform, as well as various initiatives promoting the Danube as a travel destination with a wide range of attractions. The focus is to be on culture-oriented trips along the Danube Wine Route and the Roman Emperors' Route.

Under the heading of 'A joint cultural heritage along the Danube', a two-hour tour will give visitors an impression of the scenery and the geographical, cultural and historical diversity of the regions along the Danube. On the eight stands hosted by the Danube countries experts will be providing advice on specific tourism products and services. They will also have information about business opportunities and developments in tourism on the river that unifies eastern and western Europe.

On Friday, March 7, at the ITB Destination Days in Hall 7.1a, a forum will be taking place with high-profile guests. Participants will discuss 'Marketing a joint cultural heritage' and how cultural routes along the Danube can provide a model for cross-border tourism and stimulate socio-economic progress. Among other topics, the participants will be discussing how important tourism is for maintaining and supporting regional culture as well as joint marketing strategies and activities. Furthermore, the forum will highlight how culture-oriented trips can help to secure the support of tourism players for cross-border cooperation and to open up new opportunities for tourism companies and international operators at the relevant travel destinations.
