Hundreds of new jobs have been created in Belgrade and Abu Dhabi as a result of Air Serbia's partnership with Etihad Airways.

Over 300 Serbian-nationals work for Etihad Airways and the employment opportunities have created career paths for many young Serbians. These include the first group of young Serbian nationals selected for the graduate management programme.

Throughout H1 of 2014, Air Serbia enhanced its workforce with 300 new professionals. The majority of these new jobs are in commercial roles, with a focus on the airline's call centre operations.

CEO, Air Serbia, Dane Kondić commented on this result: "The partnership with Etihad Airways brings many exciting and extraordinary employment opportunities for Serbian nationals that would not otherwise have been possible. We are growing our workforce and, for the first time, investing in skills that give people more than a job – we are offering careers.

"I am very proud that we have now recruited Serbia's inaugural batch of female pilots. We have ensured the transparency and advertising of all employment opportunities, something which rarely ever happened in the past, ensuring that all Serbians have an open and equal opportunity of gaining employment with Air Serbia," Kondić added.

President and CEO, Etihad Airways, James Hogan also noted: "The partnership between Air Serbia and Etihad Airways is strong and collaborative. It gives me great pleasure that Air Serbia is succeeding and to see capable young Serbians on the graduate programme learning skills in Abu Dhabi, which will stay with them forever."

Air Serbia's rapid growth is said to continue to stimulate the creation of a significant number of new jobs for Serbian nationals. The carrier currently has over 50 vacancies, with an active hiring process currently underway for pilots and cabin crew. It is planning to re-launch the cadet pilot scheme, which will provide stream of internationally qualified young pilots.

Aegean Airlines announces boost in results for H1 of 2014 http://ttgbalkans.com/transport/item/1063-aegean-airlines-announces-boost-in-results-for-h1-of-2014.html http://ttgbalkans.com/transport/item/1063-aegean-airlines-announces-boost-in-results-for-h1-of-2014.html Aegean Airlines announces boost in results for H1 of 2014

Aegean Airlines has reported improved results for the first half of 2014, resulting from the benefits of its network expansion and from cost synergies with Olympic Air.

Consolidated revenue increased by eight per cent to €388.6 millio, compared to the combined revenue of both companies in 2013. Consolidated pre-tax earnings reached €22 million from €7.2 million and after-tax earnings rose to €16 million from €6.9 million in 2013.

It should be noted that due to seasonality the first half is traditionally said to be the weakest semester in performance.

Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air carried 4.3 million passengers in the first half of 2014, 16 per cent more than the previous year, achieving further improvement on load factor to 76 per cent from 74 per cent, despite the high number of new destinations launched during the period.

In June 2014, the company reached a historic milestone by exceeding one million monthly passengers for the first time. Traffic in the domestic network surged by 19 per cent, driven mainly by lower fares which boosted demand for main markets as well smaller island destinations. International traffic out of the eight aircraft bases rose by 13 per cent, with Athens registering a higher growth rate of 17 per cent, as the market recovered for the first time since 2008.

Managing director, Aegean Airlines, Dimitris Gerogiannis commented: "Olympic Air synergies are gradually maturing bringing unit cost improvements and increased flows from connectivity. Our investment in incoming leisure and tourism over the last five years now brings tangible results for Aegean. This is so, despite the significant rise in competitive capacity to our market as well as new source market related challenges faced in Russia and Ukraine.

He added: "We are benefiting from scale economies and network development and we will continue to gradually but consistently pursue this strategy while making new investments in quality and competitiveness as most recently with our decision to take delivery of seven brand new Airbus A320 aircraft in 2015/2016."

H1 of 2014 has proven to be a successful period for Air Serbia, with the airline announcing strong improvements in total revenue, following an increase of 82 per cent to €102 million, compared to €56 million during H1 of 2013.

Between January and June this year, a total of 944,000 passengers travelled with the airline, representing almost 70 per cent more than the corresponding period last year. The carrier's passenger carrying capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs), was 1,588 million by the end of H1 of 2014, an increase of 85 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Since its launch in October last year, the airline has inducted nine Airbus aircraft, with two Airbus A320 aircraft delivered in Q2 of 2014. This has resulted in the average age of the jet fleet being reduced from 25 years to 10 years.
CEO, Air Serbia, Dane Kondić commented: "The results are very pleasing and demonstrate how effectively the Air Serbia team is working to deliver on the strategy of sustainable growth.

"We are on track to deliver a profitable, strong airline by the end of the current financial year, in line with the commitment of our shareholders, the government of Serbia and Etihad Airways.

"We expect to maintain the momentum for the second half of 2014, as we continue to reconnect the Balkan region and new markets, through a combination of direct flights, as well as expanding our codeshare partnerships. There is no doubt that we are bringing choice, convenience and comfort to travellers."
