Marking a successful month for passenger traffic, Sarajevo International Airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomed a total of 88,591 passengers throughout the month of August, representing an 11 per increase compared to the corresponding month in 2013.

Adding to this, commercial and civil cargo also witnessed a jump throughout August 2014, with a four per cent increase compared to the same month last year.

Wizz Air has announced that it will expand its operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina this summer, by adding two new services from Tuzla to Dortmund and Eindhoven.

The flights to Dortmund will commence on June 19 with three weekly frequencies, while the Tuzla-Eindhoven service will be operated twice weekly, starting from June 22.

With this expansion Wizz Air is now offering 13 weekly flights on five routes to four countries from Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing 60 per cent capacity growth year on year (July 2014). Seats on the new Tuzla routes have commenced sale.

Chief commercial officer, Wizz Air, György Abrán said: "Today's announcement underlines Wizz Air's commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We started our operations in Tuzla less than a year ago, and we welcome that Bosnian consumers are enthusiastic about our low fares and that the residents of Tuzla Canton already discovered our low fare routes to Gothenburg, Malmo and Basel Mulhouse Freiburg."

Abrán further added: "We are announcing two new routes to Germany and the Netherlands and we hope these will be highly popular among consumers, stimulate job growth and benefit the tourism and aviation sectors as we look forward to bringing more low fares to Bosnia and Herzegovina."

Following a successful 2013, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Sarajevo International Airport reported positive results so far in 2014, with an increase in turnover recorded in the month of January.

The number of passengers and aircraft operations was recorded to be six per cent higher than the corresponding period in 2013. Further growth in traffic is anticipated throughout 2014 with new routes having been adopted.

The airport recently announced that low-cost German airline, Germanwings, will introduce a new route connecting Sarajevo to Berlin. These new services are expected to launch on April 15, 2014, and are to operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Adding to this, in June 2014, Scandinavian Airlines is introducing a new service between Stockholm, Sweden, and Sarajevo.

B&H Airlines, the airline of Bosnia and Herzegovina, recently announced a new service between Sarajevo and Belgrade.

This new route will run four times weekly, with flights leaving from Sarajevo International Airport at 06:00, while return flights from Nikola Tesla International Airport are to leave at 08:15.

The carrier returned to serve the Serbian Market following a codeshare agreement with Air Serbia.

In the following months, B&H Airlines is set to enhance its services by redesigning its website to offer hotel and car rental services spanning the globe.

General manager, Relax Tours, Fatima Jasarevic exclusively spoke to TTG Balkans about the company's experience at WTM 2013.

"I think that this year's WTM was successful for Relax Tours. I must say that last year's visit to WTM was much better. I think that the global crisis has affected the tourism industry in many ways, as have political situations.

"This year at WTM we promoted Bosnia and the whole Balkan area as we can see that interest from tourists from many countries is growing day-to-day and looks much more promising than before," explained Jasarevic.

"Every week we have different groups coming from different destinations to Bosnia and Herzegovina and other Balkan countries. We are providing different tours and itineraries according to the desires of our clients," she added.

Jasarevic further shared that the Far East market is showing considerable interest in the company's offerings and that Relax Tours is set to be present at ITB Berlin in March 2014 among others.

Marriott International recently announced plans to open its inaugural property in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the 75-suite Residence Inn Sarajevo, slated for late 2014, which will be operated as a Marriott franchise, owned by SEIC Hospitality and managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts.

The Residence Inn Sarajevo is expected to fill a gap in the extended stay segment and offer a blend of modern style and functionality that allows guests to thrive on long stays.
Situated a mere 20 minutes from the airport and near the old city, the new property is expected to provide convenient access to the city's historical and cultural attractions as well as restaurants, cafes and shops.

Sarajevo International Airport reported growth in passenger numbers and aircraft movement in August 2013, continuing the upward trend seen over the previous months.

During the course of the month, a total of 79,796 passengers were registered at the airport, marking an impressive jump of 31 per cent in comparison to 2012 figures.

Aircraft movement stood at 546 – a year-on-year increase of six per cent.
